Event Description

Improving the population’s health and preventing illness and disease is key to reducing health inequalities and is at the heart of the NHS Long Term Plan. Many conditions which can contribute to shorter healthy life expectancy are preventable, Primary Care has a vital role in taking action to help people improve their own health, from targeted support to help people reduce their dependency on alcohol or tobacco, to offering weight management services, to prescribing statins to prevent heart attacks

In this session, we will be joined by colleagues from Public Health and we will discuss the importance of addressing prevention, tips around how to open a dialogue on improving health such as physical activity and stopping smoking in way that is engaging rather than challenging  and which fits with the day to day interactions you have with patients.

Speakers:
  • Dr Charlotte Ashton, Public Health Consultant and Programme Director at Evidence Islington
  • Dr Fran Bury, Public Health Consultant, Islington Council
