Accept payments for your events using Stripe, the industry-standard payment processor. Medtribe uses Stripe Connect to securely process payments directly to your account.

How Payments Work

When attendees book a paid ticket:

  1. They're redirected to a secure Stripe checkout page
  2. Payment is processed directly to your connected Stripe account
  3. Once payment succeeds, the booking is confirmed automatically
  4. Both you and the attendee receive confirmation emails
  5. Attendees can access their receipt from their booking

Setting Up Payments

Step 1: Access Payment Settings

  1. Go to the Educator section
  2. Click on Payment Settings in the navigation

Step 2: Connect Your Stripe Account

  1. Click Set Up Payments
  2. You'll be redirected to Stripe's secure onboarding
  3. Follow the steps to create or connect your Stripe account:
    • Enter your business or personal details
    • Provide bank account information for payouts
    • Verify your identity as required by Stripe
  4. Once complete, you're returned to Medtribe

Stripe Express
Medtribe uses Stripe Express accounts, which provide a streamlined setup experience. You don't need an existing Stripe account - one will be created for you during onboarding.

Step 3: Complete Verification

After initial setup, Stripe may require additional verification. Your account status will show as one of:

Status Meaning
Not Set Up You haven't started the setup process yet
In Progress Account created but verification incomplete - click to continue
Verified Ready to accept payments

Complete Verification
You cannot accept paid bookings until your Stripe account is fully verified. If verification is pending, check your email for any requests from Stripe.

Understanding Fees

When accepting payments, two types of fees may apply:

1. Stripe Processing Fees

Stripe charges a fee for processing each payment. The exact rate depends on:

For UK accounts, typical fees are around 1.4% + 20p for UK cards, and 2.9% + 20p for international cards. Visit Stripe's pricing page for current rates.

2. Medtribe Platform Fee

Platform fees depend on your plan:

Starter 3% per paid ticket
Educator No platform fee
Pro No platform fee

Free events never incur any fees.

Fee Example

For a £100 ticket on the Starter plan:

On Educator or Pro plans, you'd receive approximately £98.40 (only Stripe fees apply).

Managing Your Stripe Account

Accessing Your Dashboard

Once verified, you can access your Stripe dashboard directly from Payment Settings:

  1. Go to Payment Settings
  2. Click Open Stripe Dashboard
  3. You'll be logged into your Stripe Express dashboard

From your Stripe dashboard, you can:

Payouts

Stripe handles payouts to your bank account. By default, payouts are set to manual, meaning you control when funds are transferred. You can change this in your Stripe dashboard to automatic payouts on a schedule that suits you.

Attendee Experience

Checkout Process

When attendees book a paid ticket:

  1. They select their ticket and fill any required forms
  2. They're redirected to Stripe's secure checkout page
  3. They enter payment details (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.)
  4. On successful payment, they're returned to Medtribe with a confirmed booking
  5. They receive a booking confirmation email

Receipts

Attendees can access their payment receipt:

  1. From their booking confirmation email
  2. From their booking details in My Bookings

Receipts are provided by Stripe and include all payment details for their records.

Refunds

To refund a payment:

  1. Go to your Stripe Dashboard
  2. Find the payment you want to refund
  3. Process the refund through Stripe

Refund Fees
When you issue a refund, Stripe typically does not return the processing fee. Check Stripe's current refund policy for details.

Disconnecting Your Account

If you need to disconnect your Stripe account:

  1. Go to Payment Settings
  2. Click Delete Payment Account
  3. Confirm the deletion

Cannot Delete with Paid Tickets
You cannot disconnect your Stripe account if you have events with paid tickets. This protects transaction records and ensures you can handle any refunds or disputes.

Common Questions

Can I use my existing Stripe account?
The setup process creates a new Stripe Express account connected to Medtribe. If you have an existing Stripe account, you can use the same email and bank details during setup.
When will I receive my money?
Funds are available for payout after Stripe's standard holding period (typically 7 days for new accounts, reducing over time). You can then transfer to your bank account via your Stripe dashboard.
What currencies are supported?
You can set ticket prices in GBP, EUR, USD, and other major currencies. Stripe handles currency conversion if the attendee's card uses a different currency.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes. Medtribe never sees or stores your attendees' card details. All payment processing happens on Stripe's secure, PCI-compliant infrastructure.
Can I offer discounts or promo codes?
Currently, pricing is set per ticket. For discount pricing, consider creating separate ticket types (e.g., "Early Bird" at a lower price).
What happens if a payment fails?
If a payment fails, the booking is not confirmed. The attendee can try again with a different payment method. Failed attempts don't affect your account.
